Drawing...

Drawing Project, 'Difficulties in Direction and Communication'

Firstly I was experimenting with maps, obscuring them in different ways

I then started drawing in a decorative style using maps as inspiration

I felt like the 1st approach was too literal and the 2nd approach is too abstract

Mixing faces and maps, brains, maps, confusion...
Then adding text into the map, mixture of French and English to illustrate language difficulties

maps and faces

I felt this idea was too obvious drawing the lines of maps. More interesting when it was text rather than lines, I might explore this idea further, linking the mouth to the ear. Crossing sections could symbolise difficulty.

Book Binding...

Book Binding 2

Hammer the spine to make it curve

cover the spine with paper.

roll a piece of string tightly in paper and cut it to fit in place here.

repeat for the bottom as well
hammer the string so it is flat

cover it with a piece of card.
Next task is making the cover

Cut the paper to fit the outside of the book with 2cm to spare all the way round, leaving room for the movement in the spine.

fix the paper to one side of the book.
flip it over and fix to the other side

cut the corners diagonally so they can be glued and folded neatly on the inside of the cover.

lifting up the spine to fix the paper to rest neatly under the spine
Cover the inside covers with 2 more pieces of paper cut exactly the same size as the book.

The paper I used for the outside was quite thin so it didn't smooth down very well (I messed it up) so I added this decorative card on top.
